CRUNCHY HOMEMADE ONION RINGS
Make deliciously crisp Homemade Onion Rings with just a few ingredients! Perfect for pairing with grilled burgers, chicken, hot dogs, fish, or anything else you fancy. Add them to your burgers, salads, or sandwiches for an extra satisfying crunch!
Onion rings are a treat for us, not an everyday indulgence. But when we’re grilling burgers with friends, I like to have a batch of extra crispy rings ready to go. They’re breaded and waiting in the fridge, so all I have to do is fry them up right before we eat.
We prefer our onion rings super crunchy, using Panko breadcrumbs instead of beer batter. Both are tasty, but there’s something about that shatteringly crisp, golden exterior that wins us over every time. And the best part? This easy onion ring recipe requires just a handful of basic ingredients!
INGREDIENTS YOU WILL NEED:
- Onions
- Flour
- Bread crumbs
- Corn starch
- Paprika
- Italian herbs
- Salt and pepper
- Water
- Frying oil
HOW TO MAKE HOMEMADE ONION RINGS
- Slice your onion: Start by slicing a large onion into discs between ¼” and ½” wide. Separate them into individual rings.
- Prepare dredging stations: Set up two shallow bowls. In one, mix flour, cornstarch, water, smoked paprika, salt, pepper, and mixed herbs. Place Panko breadcrumbs in the second.
- Dip each onion ring in the flour mixture, then into the breadcrumbs. Toss to coat evenly, pressing gently to adhere.
- Heat oil: Heat 1- to 2-inches of oil in a skillet or deep fryer to 350-375°F over medium-high heat.
- Fry onion rings: Working in batches, fry 4-6 rings at a time for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a wire rack set over a baking sheet lined with paper towels to drain.
- Serve with your favorite dipping sauce! Enjoy your crispy homemade onion rings with ketchup or fry sauce.
