CRISPY FRIED MOZZARELLA

These crispy fried mozzarella balls are the perfect vegetarian appetizer or snack, served with a roasted tomato sauce on the side. A cheese lover’s dream come true, these crispy and delicious morsels are a sight to behold! Enjoy with a delicious tomato and basil sauce to balance out the richness of the cheese. Warning: you’ll want to double the recipe because these irresistible treats won’t last long!

INGREDIENTS:

  • Whole mozzarella balls
  • Cornflakes
  • Flour
  • Dura basil
  • Dried parsley
  • Salt and pepper
  • Paprika 
  •  Garlic powder 
  •  Frying oil 
  •  Eggs

HOW TO MAKE THE BEST FRIED MOZZARELLA

For mozzarella, I recommend using bocconcini (small mozzarella balls) for convenience, but low-moisture mozzarella sticks work just as well. Pat the cheese dry with paper towels, then let it rest for 15 minutes on a plate or cutting board. For the bread, keep it simple with flour, eggs, and cornflakes. I like to season the bread with garlic powder and Italian herbs, but you can use any seasoning you like. The double layer of cheese ensures that it is well-coated. Start the mozzarella with the flour, then the egg, and finally the cornflakes. When frying, heat the oil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Fry the shredded mozzarella until golden brown, making sure the oil is hot enough to prevent it from melting. You’ll know it’s ready when the oil bubbles around the mozzarella as it’s submerged. Enjoy your crispy mozzarella bites!

FREEZING AND MAKING AHEAD

  • While freezing isn’t my first choice, you can freeze the breaded and fried mozzarella in a single layer until firm, then transfer to a freezer bag for up to 3 months. Fry from frozen until golden brown and crispy.
  • To make ahead, you can make the mozzarella bread up to an hour in advance. Store on a rack in the refrigerator until ready to fry. This way, you can enjoy fresh fried mozzarella whenever you wantWITH  Minimal prep time!

Ingredients
  

  • 4 whole mozzarella balls
  • 2 cups crushed cornflakes
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 eggs
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Frying oil

Instructions
 

  • Start by cutting the mozzarella balls into thick pieces.
  • Crush your cornflakes and season with the herbs and mix.
  • Start by dipping the cheese in the flour, then the eggs then the cornflakes mixture,
  • Freeze for minimum of 30 minutes.
  • Heat the oil in a large pot. Fry in batches until golden brown and crisp.
  • Serve with tomato sauce for dipping.
