HOW TO MAKE ONE POT FRENCH ONION PASTA
Imagine a pasta journey inspired by the warmth of classic French Onion Soup – that’s exactly what we’re cooking up here with our one-pot wonder! So, picture this: we kick things off with a bunch of caramelized onions, and yes, it takes a little time, but trust me, the savory sweetness they bring to the pasta is like a culinary hug.
To caramelize those onions, heat up some butter in a big pot until it’s shimmering. Toss in a bunch of sliced yellow onions, sprinkle in a good pinch of salt, and let the magic happen over medium heat for about 30 minutes. If things get a tad dry or start to flirt with burning, just sprinkle in a splash of water and keep the onion party alive.
Once those onions reach a dreamy caramelized state, throw in some garlic, thyme, and some parmesan cheese. Let them mingle in the pot for a few more minutes until your kitchen smells like a cozy haven.
Now, for the fun part – add a splash of heavy cream and beef stock to the mix, using a rubber spoon to scrape up all those delicious brown bits at the bottom of the pot. Voilà! You’ve got a flavor-packed base ready to turn your pasta night into a friendly feast!
TIPS FOR MAKING FRENCH ONION PASTA
- When you’re in onion-cooking mode, give them a gentle stir every 3-4 minutes. Stir too little, and they might burn; stir too much, and they won’t get that beautiful brown goodness.
- To whip up a vegan version of this One Pot French Onion Pasta, swap out beef stock for vegetable stock. It won’t be exactly like traditional French onion soup, but trust me, it’ll still be absolutely delicious!
- For a gluten-free twist, use gluten-free pasta and flour substitute. You can even skip the flour altogether; it just means your pasta won’t be as creamy.
