EASY DETROIT STYLE PIZZA
If you are a fan of real authentic American style thick pizza, then you have to try this recipe! This Detroit style recipe will blow your mind! The dough is ready in 10 minutes and the rest is just a piece of cake. This Detroit Style Pizza Recipe is perfect for quick dinners or if you have some friends over, it will take you straight to New York!
LET’S TALK ABOUT THE DOUGH
The Dough for this Detroit Style Pizza is very simple to make! I actually made it using a Stand mixer, but you can absolutely use it with no Stand mixer , just a bowl!
In a bowl, you’ll start by adding the flour, salt, sugar, yeast, warm water and olive oil and start mixing until everything is smooth. You can also use bread flour for better results, as bread flour has more protein in it and results in a softer version. But if you don’t have, it doesn’t matter, you can rely on all-purpose flour.
Then we will start kneading the dough by hand or a stand mixer for 2-3 minutes till it is smooth. Just a quick note, this dough is very sticky, so it is fine, you do not need to worry! But most importantly, it should be easy to work with. If it is too sticky to work with, you can add 1 tbsp of flour. After the dough has come to shape, add to a well oiled bowl and cover it and let it rest for 30 minutes. This process actually allows the gluten to develop and form a stretcher dough.
Meanwhile, we are going to grease a 9×13 Pan with lots of olive oil, coating every inch of the pan with the sides. Then after 30 minutes, we’re gonna add the dough in the pan and start stretching it outwards till it is completely expanded. If it continues to spring back, you can let it rest covered for another 10 minutes. Then we will cover the dough for another hour or until it doubles in size.
PREPARATION AND ASSEMBLING THE PIZZA
While the dough is rising, make sure to preheat the oven to 190 Celsius degrees, to ensure that the pizza is cooked. In the meantime, we are going to prepare our garlic butter. We’re just going to add some melted butter, garlic, chili flakes, parsley, dried oregano and Parmesan cheese to a bowl and mix everything together. We’re also going to prepare our own marinara sauce which is my favorite part! In a bowl, pour the tomato sauce, with little salt, a pinch of sugar, oregano, some olive oil and mix. After the dough has risen, we will spread a layer of the garlic butter very well. Then we are spreading a layer of the tomato sauce coating all inches. Then we will sprinkle a decent amount of mozzarella cheese on top and some pepperoni. I like to use Turkish Sucuk in this recipe instead of pepperoni because it makes it so good! But you can definitely use pepperoni for the experience! You can also add your favorite ingredients, such jalapeños, or any vegetables you like! Then we will bake it for about 12-15 minutes or until its edges look golden brown and crispy and the cheese is bubbling!
Then afterwards we are going to let it rest and then cut it into squares and enjoy warm! For a yummier kick you can add some Burrata cheese and a drizzle of honey on top! It gives a huge change. I also like to add lots of Parmesan cheese on top. Isn’t it obvious now that I’m in love with Parmesan cheese? I guess it is!
