WHAT ARE HASSELBACK POTATOES

Hasselback potatoes are a type of baked potato characterized by their unique, fan-like appearance. They are made by slicing a potato thinly at regular intervals, almost to the base, without cutting all the way through. This technique creates a series of thin, connected slices that crisp up beautifully in the oven while the inside stays tender and fluffy.

Hasselback potatoes originated in Sweden, where they were first served at the Hasselbacken restaurant in Stockholm in the 1950s. They are often seasoned with butter, oil, salt, pepper, and herbs, and can be topped with ingredients like cheese, breadcrumbs, garlic, or bacon for added flavor and texture. They’re a visually stunning and delicious side dish perfect for any occasion!

INGREDIENTS YOU NEED:

  • Potatoes
  • Cheddar Cheese
  • Sucuk
  • Parmesan cheese
  • Olive oil

TIPS FOR THE BEST HASSELBACK POTATOES

  • Use the Right Potatoes: Opt for starchy potatoes like Russet for crispier edges, or Yukon Gold for a creamier texture.
  • Achieve Even Slices: Place chopsticks or wooden spoons on either side of the potato to prevent cutting all the way through. This keeps the slices intact while creating the signature “fan” effect.
  • Oil It Up: Drizzle generously with olive oil or melted butter, making sure it seeps between the slices for crispy, golden edges.
