PREPPING AND SLICING
Getting your peaches ready for a peach cobbler is super easy, and here’s how to do it:
- Start by washing your peaches – Give them a good rinse under cool water to get rid of any dirt.
- Peel the peaches (optional) – If you prefer your peaches without the skin, you can peel them with a vegetable peeler or try this quick trick:
Boil some water, then drop the peaches in for about 30 seconds. Quickly move them to a bowl of ice water, and voilà – the skins should slip right off! - Cut the peaches in half – Lay your peach on its side and slice it all the way around, following the natural line. Gently twist the halves in opposite directions to separate them.
- Remove the pit – Just pop the pit out with your knife or fingers.
- Slice into wedges – Lay the peach halves flat and slice them into wedges or thicker slices, whichever you prefer. Try to keep them even, so they bake perfectly.
INGREDIENTS:
As always, you can find the full recipe with all the exact amounts and step-by-step instructions at the bottom of this post! But first, let’s go over what you’ll need:
- All-purpose flour
- Granulated sugar
- Baking powder – This is the magic that makes the cobbler’s cake topping rise and get all fluffy.
- Salt
- Milk – You can use any kind of milk here, whether it’s dairy or non-dairy. It won’t make a difference, so go with what you like!
- Unsalted butter – Melt this before using. You can do it in the microwave or on the stovetop.
- Vanilla extract
- Yellow peaches – Fresh, ripe peaches are ideal, but canned or frozen work too! If you’re using frozen, make sure to thaw them first or add a few extra minutes to the baking time.
- Lemon – A little lemon juice brightens up the peach flavor and makes everything taste fresh.
- Brown sugar – Adds a warm, caramel-like sweetness that pairs perfectly with the spices.
- Cornstarch – This helps soak up any extra juice from the peaches so your cobbler doesn’t end up watery. If you’re using frozen peaches, you might want to add a little more cornstarch since they tend to release more moisture.
- Ground cinnamon – It gives that cozy, warm flavor that makes your kitchen smell like fall while the cobbler bakes!
- Ground ginger
- Ground nutmeg
STORAGE
If you have any leftovers (lucky you!), here’s how to store them:
- Room Temperature: Your peach cobbler will stay fresh for 1-2 days if you keep it at room temperature. Just make sure to store it in an airtight container or wrap it tightly in plastic wrap.
- In the Fridge: If you want to keep it longer, pop it in the fridge where it will last for up to 4 days. Again, airtight containers or plastic wrap are your best friends here!
- Freezing: You can also freeze your cobbler for later! Wrap it well in plastic wrap and/or aluminum foil, or use an airtight container. It’ll stay good in the freezer for up to a month. When you’re ready to enjoy it again, just thaw it overnight in the fridge and reheat it in the oven.
TIPS FOR SUCCESS
- Blanch and peel the peaches (optional): If you’re not a fan of peach skins, peeling them is a great idea for a smoother texture. It’s totally up to you, though—if you don’t mind the skins, feel free to skip this step!
- Let it cool before serving: I know it’s tempting to dig in right away, but give your cobbler some time to cool for at least an hour (or until the bottom of the dish is cool enough to touch). This allows the filling to set and firm up, so you won’t end up with a soupy mess when you scoop it out.
- Serve with ice cream! Trust me, this cobbler is even better with a scoop of ice cream on top. It’s the perfect combo and makes the whole dessert even more delicious!

THE BEST PEACH COBBLER RECIPE
Equipment
- 1 9" Baking dish
Ingredients
THE TOPPING
- 140 g all-purpose flour
- 100 g granulated sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 175 g milk
- 100 g unsalted butter melted
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
THE FILLING
- 3 yellow peaches
- Juice of ½ a lemon
- 50 g brown sugar
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- ½ tsp ground ginger
- ½ tsp ground nutmeg
Instructions
THE TOPPING
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Pour in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Whisk until just combined, then set aside.
THE FILLING
- Get a large bowl of ice water ready. Bring a pot of water to a simmer, then lower the peaches in for 30-60 seconds. Once done, transfer them to the ice water to cool completely.
- Gently pinch the peach skin to start peeling or use a knife to make a small cut. The skin should come off easily! Slice the peaches into ½" thick pieces.
- Add the sliced peaches to a 9" round baking dish. Toss them with lemon juice, brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg until everything is nicely coated.
- Pour the batter over the peaches. Don’t worry if there are gaps—it’s nice to see some peaches peeking through!
- Place the dish on a baking tray (to catch any overflow) and bake for 60-65 minutes, or until the top is golden and the filling is bubbly.
- Let the cobbler cool for at least an hour to set the filling. Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream for the ultimate treat!
