Homemade Thin Sliced Pizza for Beginners

There’s something magical about a perfectly made pizza—crispy, cheesy, and with the right amount of toppings to make every bite irresistible.

Ingredients

For the Pizza Dough:
  • 1 cup of water (warm)
  • 2.5 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/3 cup of milk
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour
For the Pizza Sauce:
  • 1 cup passata (tomato puree)
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
For the Cheese & Toppings:
  • Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • Low moisture mozzarella (grated)

Method

  1. Start by combining warm water, instant yeast, and sugar in a mixing bowl. Stir gently and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.
  2. Add milk, salt, olive oil, and flour to the bowl. Using a stand mixer, mix on speed 2 for 3-4 minutes and then increase to speed 4 for another 3-4 minutes. The dough should be smooth and elastic. If kneading by hand, knead the dough for 6-10 minutes until it becomes smooth and bounces back when poked with your finger.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rest for 10-20 minutes. This will help relax the gluten, making it easier to shape.
  4. Once rested, divide the dough into 2-3 equal portions (depending on the size of the pizza you want). For a 16-17 inch thin crust, divide the dough into two portions, each weighing about 409g.
  5. Lightly oil a bowl or tray, place the dough balls inside, and coat them with oil. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let the dough rest for 2-3 hours. It should double in size and stretch easily.
  6. In a bowl, combine passata, olive oil, sugar, salt, oregano. Mix well to create your homemade pizza sauce.
  7. Preheat your oven to 490-500°F (250-260°C) for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour before baking the pizza. Place your wire tray in the oven so it’s hot when the pizza is ready to go.
  8. Once the dough has risen, lightly dust your work surface with flour. Remove the wire tray from the oven, allowing it to cool slightly. Sprinkle a generous amount of flour on the work surface.
  9. Place your dough over the flour and begin stretching it into a circle, creating a crust around the edges.
  10. Place your dough over the flour and begin stretching it into a circle, creating a crust around the edges.
  11. Place the pizza in the oven and bake for 8-14 minutes or until the crust is golden and crispy to your liking. For the first 8-10 minutes, bake on the bottom rack. Then, broil for the final 2-3 minutes on the top rack to get that perfect golden finish.
  12. Keep an eye on the pizza as it bakes; depending on your oven, you may need to adjust the rack placement for the best results.
  13. As soon as the pizza comes out of the oven, sprinkle with freshly grated Parmesan!
