MCDONALD’S COPYCAT APPLE PIES

If you love McDonald’s apple pie, you will enjoy this simple homemade recipe even more! These pies feature an incredibly crispy and flaky crust, while the filling is delightfully gooey, packed with the tasty warmth of apple spice.

THE APPLE PIE FILLING

The first and most important part of this recipe is making the apple pie filling. Crafting the perfect apple pie relies on two key factors:

Finding the right mix of sweetness and tartness, steering clear of overly sour or too sweet. It’s about hitting that perfect spot.

Make sure the apples are cooked just right. They shouldn’t be undercooked and crunchy, nor overcooked and mushy.

Here are the ingredients you will need

Apples

Light brown sugar

Unsalted butter

Vanilla extract

Cinnamon

Lemon juice

Salt

Cornstarch mixed with water

In a medium heated pan, melt the butter and add in the apples, light brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Mix everything and let it cook for about 6 to 8 minutes until the apples are soft when touched with a fork. For the cornstarch slurry, combine the water with cornstarch in a small bowl, then mix it into the pan. Stir to thicken, then remove from heat and transfer to another bowl.

 

ASSEMBLY & BAKING

For putting together the apple pies, you need two more elements:

EGG WASH: Just whisk an egg with a little milk in a small bowl. It’s that simple!

CINNAMON SUGAR: In another small bowl, mix white sugar with cinnamon well. Set this aside.

Next, focus on the puff pastry. Follow the thawing instructions on the package. Once ready, unwrap both sheets and cut each sheet into four equal parts.

Brush the edges of each piece with the egg wash. Put the apple filling on one side, then fold it to make a long rectangular pie. Lightly press down on the edges to secure them, and use a fork to press the edges closed.

Brush the tops with egg wash and sprinkle generously with cinnamon sugar. Make three small cuts on top.

Put them in the oven and bake for about 20 to 25 minutes or until they look golden and crispy. Once finished, let them cool for 5 to 10 minutes before enjoying! Remember, they will be quite hot, so be careful and patient for that first delightful bite.
